Photo Timelines

Privacy Policy

Effective October 16, 2026

Your photos never leave your device. Photo Timelines has no accounts, ads, analytics or tracking. The only thing that reaches us is what you choose to send with Send Feedback.

Where this applies

Photo Timelines on iPhone, iPad and Mac.

Your photos stay on your device

The app reads only the albums you pick in Photos (your albums, shared iCloud albums and smart albums) or, on Mac, a folder you choose. Photos, thumbnails and subject cutouts are processed and kept on the device: Vision cuts out the subject, VisionKit scans printed photos, and Describe, if you turn it on, uses Apple Intelligence on the device. Photos are never uploaded, to us or to anyone. Scans and AR captures are saved to your own photo library.

What reaches the developer

Only what you send with Send Feedback (Idea, Bug or Other): the text you write and, with it, the app version and build, the platform and system version, the device model, the language and the screen you sent it from. Never photos. No name, email, account or identifier, so it isn’t linked to you and isn’t used to track you. It is stored in our private feedback inbox (Supabase) and used only to improve the app. Without a connection it waits on the device and goes out when you’re back online.

What goes to Apple, not to us

Your timelines’ recipe (subject, albums, events, favorites and scan dates) syncs through your private iCloud (CloudKit and iCloud Key-Value) so it appears on your other devices; photos are not part of it, and each device reads its own library. The map, a photo’s location and the Places video style load from Apple Maps, which receives map regions only, and Apple’s geocoder turns a photo’s coordinates into a place name. Never your photos. That is governed by Apple’s privacy policy.

On the device

Preferences, caches, widget data, “On this day” reminders (scheduled on the device, no servers) and the counters behind the App Store review prompt never leave the device.

No tracking or ads

No third-party analytics or SDKs, no advertising identifiers and no data selling.

Permissions the app asks for

  • Photos, to read the albums you pick and build a timeline on the device.
  • Add to Photos, to save the photos and videos you capture in AR.
  • Camera, to scan printed photos and to show the timeline in AR (iPhone and iPad).
  • Notifications, for “On this day” reminders when a photo turns another year old.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not collect personal data from anyone.

Deleting data

Your timelines’ recipe lives in your iCloud: delete it from Settings › [your name] › iCloud. Deleting the app removes everything it kept on the device. Your photos stay in Photos. To delete a feedback message, write to jcguzmanr@gmail.com.
